Hello everyone…I have uploaded pics from 3/28/08—4/4/08 so everyone can see Hayden’s progress! Hope you all are doing well!
Doctors removed Hayden’s umbilical lines (long, thin catheters inserted into the blood vessels in the umbilical cord used for drawing blood samples, administering fluids and medications) today, and will be trading them for one Picc line (Percutaneously Inserted Central Catheter) - A long, very thin catheter inserted through the skin into a vein for the long-term administration of fluids and/or medications. We are hoping he can start drinking breast milk next week.
Doctors are currently giving Hayden caffeine to stimulate the respiratory center of his brain and remind him to breath on his own (caffeine is used to treat apnea of prematurity). Although he has a ventilation tube still, his gas tests (a blood test used to determine the amounts of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and acidity in the blood) are getting better!
We did discover that Hayden has a small hole and murmur in his heart, but Doctors are hopeful that it will heal on its own!!
Hayden is 2 weeks old today and looking as handsome as ever! Please keep praying for this little guy!!!
Love Aunt Krystal
