Nurses were able to remove Hyaden’s ET tube (the large tube in his mouth & down his airway) and replace it with CPAP (Continuous positive airway pressure) nasal prongs last night at 12:30 a.m.!!! A nasal CPAP device consists of a large tube with tiny prongs that fit into the baby's nose, which is hooked to a machine that provides oxygenated air into the baby's air passages and lungs. The pressure from the CPAP machine helps keep Hayden’s lungs open so he can breathe. However, the machine does not provide breaths for the Hayden, so he is breathing on his own!!! This is a major major milestone for Hayden!!
Also…we are hoping Lisa and Dustin will be able to hold Hayden for the first time today!!! It all depends on his gas test, so everyone pray for a good one!! The NICU promotes Kangaroo care, which consists of placing Hayden in an upright position on Lisa or Dustin’s bare chest. Hayden’s head will be turned so that his ear is above their hearts. Most studies have proven that Kangaroo Care has a major, positive impact on babies and their parents. Can you imagine how wonderful it is going to be for them to FINALLY hold Hayden after 3 ½ weeks of seeing him through an incubator??? What a wonderful miracle on income tax day, ha ha ha.
Also, a special thanks to everyone who stays updated on Hayden and is supporting Lisa & Dustin one way or another. This is still going to be a long and stressful journey for the young parents, and they appreciate any help and support they receive!! Thanks you!
Love,
Krys

Do I need to buy him a blue pacifier? I can't believe Dustin let this happen. He is precious though. I can't wait to see him on Thursday.
