As you all may know, our little Hayden has Bacterial Meningitis. Doctors are currently performing two tests on him daily:
1) Blood & Spinal fluid (in his brain): The blood and fluid is tested to determine if the bacteria are still present; currently the tests are still positive for the bacteria.
2) Blood culture: Blood is drawn and put in a petree dish to see if the bacteria are growing (spreading). As of 4/26-4/28-nothing has grown-which is a great thing.
In other words, Hayden still has Meningitis, but it is not spreading. The antibiotics are keeping the infection in control for now. His current antibiotics are:
-Ampicillin: used to prevent the growth of certain types of bacteria
-Gentamicin: used to treat infection
-Vancomycin: kills bacteria by preventing them from reproducing
Usually, these antibiotics take 3-5 days to treat Meningitis, and he has been on them for approx. 6 days. Doctors do not know why the infection has gone away-they think it could be due to a possible absess in Hayden’s brain. To determine if there is indeed an absess, Hayden will receive an MRI in the morning. If there is an absess, he will most likely be taken to Clear Lake regional’s NICU (#1 hospital in the area for this procedure).
We are not sure what to expect, but I will keep everyone posted. Please don’t panic, just pray!!! Also, I will post the results as soon as we receive them, which may or may not be available tomorrow. Doctors are keeping hayden on his seizure medicine and Morphine to control his jerky movements and keep him comfortable…the more still be is, the less calories he burns and he needs those calories!! We are hoping he will be able to begin formula again, soon!
On a more positive note, our little man is up to 2 pounds 15 ounces!!! He has grown so much, and watching him grow is the highlight of our lives!!
Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support, prayer works.
Love,
Krystal
Mark 11:22-24
22) "Have faith in God," Jesus answered. 23) "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24)Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
